Totally agree with this. There just isn't enough knowledge about these conditions to treat them effectively. Having to go through lots of different doctors to even get one to listen is exhausting in itself.

I absolutely agree with this. I was informed that NNUH has no thyroid specialist - endocrinologists are all diabetes specialists. I think this also applies to QEH and JPH. Thyroid disease affects many people, almost all women, whom we feel are overlooked. Thyroid disease is not preventable - unlike like diabetes which can be prevented by better lifestyle. So we are thyroid patients penalised? When thyroid disease is diagnosed, or poorly treated, patients can be left unable to work or care for themselves or their families. Patients are not offered an alternative treatment if the first-line drug does not work. They are then given tests for unnecessary conditions, and drugs to mask their symptoms.
This is wholly non cost-effective, as well as being hugely unfair to patients. Please Norfolk, invest in more thyroid specialists who are fully trained in current knowledge, not based in out-of-date thinking, and not willing to consider new ideas.
