Condition specific groups

GP practices set up condition specific groups of patients (which are then run by the patients themselves) they could decide whether to meet up or be in touch on line, or both. The idea is that these groups support each other and share info and coping mechanisms. This works well with the spinal injuries association, and with a rheumatoid arthritis group I was once part of.

Why the contribution is important

You can feel very isolated at home, and that can lead to depression.

This is a sensible idea and when a patient does not turn up the group can notify the mental health team

This is a brilliant idea, and one which could be easily set up and then managed by the patients themselves. As with my pancreas condition there is hardly any information/support groups/national charities and it can be a very lonely, depressive disease.
